Updated May 21, 2021
Knowledge Forum (KF) is an electronic group workspace designed to support the process of Knowledge Building.
With Knowledge Forum, any number of individuals and groups can share information, launch collaborative
investigations, and build networks of new ideas together.
We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users and to providing a safe, online environment for students,
educators, and parents to collaborate, build ideas and advance knowledge together. This privacy policy outlines what
information we, Knowledge Building Research International (hereinafter called "us", "we", or "our") collect to
provide Knowledge Forum, (the "Service"), why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights and choices you have
over your own information.
What information does KF collect?
KF collects information in different ways in order to provide an individualized and robust educational experience for
each user, including real-time assessments for use by students and teachers.
Personal information refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. Personal
information that is collected by the Service may include names, email addresses, IP addresses, network location,
browser version, browser type, device IDs and characteristics, operating system version, language preferences,
referring URLs.
Usage data is also collected and includes information about when object content in KF “communities” (i.e.
databases) is accessed, added, modified, or deleted. KF stores information about all of the contributions made by
users of those communities. Contributions information includes the username, the contribution's textual content,
any links and pictures that are part of the contribution, all timestamps for creation and modifications, and metadata
related to how the contribution is organized in the Knowledge Forum community. If the contributor is authenticated,
user identification is also stored.
How do we use the personal information we collect?
KF uses the collected data for various purposes: To provide and maintain our Service; To notify you about changes
to our Service; To allow you to participate in interactive features of our Service when you choose to do so; To
provide customer support; To gather analysis or valuable information so that we can improve our Service; To
monitor the usage of our Service; To detect, prevent and address technical issues.
Legal basis for collecting data / access to users under 18
Access to service to students under 18 is regulated by individual schools bound by their respective policies to protect
student privacy and confidentiality, and who are responsible for obtaining parental consent for student use of
educational technologies. Parents, teachers, or school/district administrators who are Knowledge Forum community
managers have access to features that enable pseudo names of authors to prevent identification in online discourse or
user data tracked by analytic tools. Community managers may also use pseudonyms for students and are not obliged
to enter email addresses for students when setting up student KF accounts.

How does KF protect my personal data?
Protecting our users’ information is very important to us. We take a number of precautions to ensure that your

Password protection - Secure passwords are a critical step in securing a KF account. Choose a password
that is memorable but difficult to guess, and keep your password confidential at all times. Additional
information on password safety is available on the Government of Canada's website.
SSL encryption - All communication with KF Software is secured by GDPR Compliant TLS v1.2+
encryption protocols (these protocols adhere with the industry-standard certificate signing key of RSA 2048
bits signed by R3 [AIA: http://r3.i.lencr.org/ ]).
Salted hashing - All passwords are encrypted, hashed, and salted.
Independent service-level APIs - All Secured APIs which deal with sensitive data need a valid temporary
token for authorization obtained after successful authentication.
Database protection - Databases are encrypted and can only be accessed via the localhost.
Please remember that, while we take precautions to ensure the security of your data, no method of transmission over
the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means
to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Can I modify, view or delete my information? Your rights and choices:
A teacher or school/district administrator can view and/or edit account information through a password-protected
manager account. As a parent, teacher or school district administrator, you have the ability to contact us at any time
to review personally Identifiable Information and categories of data being held in education records.

information on your behalf.
You are able to request that your account be deleted at any time by writing to us. You are also able to request to
